Mother Nature, it seems, wants to rectify years of California drought in a single month. Like many, I have mixed feelings toward the rain. On the one hand — salvation! (at least temporary). On the other hand — enough already! The same applies to clouds; I’ve looked at them, as the song says, from both sides now. Yes, they bring or presage more of the annoying wet stuff. But to a photographer living in a city more known for moody fog than dramatic skies, winter clouds are a welcome sight. I really don’t know clouds at all … and no matter how rainy our winter, that probably won’t change. Clouds are a flowing, morphing, unpredictable, unknowable subject, and I’m loving them. Here are six of my favorite cloud images from San Francisco, some captured as recently as yesterday, some going back years.
