Kilroy Was Here: Batteries and Bunkers

Today, the last of my impressions and images — landscape and detailed — of the decommissioned military installations in Bay Area open spaces. My focus has been the Marin Headlands, but you can also explore and hike through this history around San Francisco’s western coast, and on Angel Island. Two good sources for Headlands info:

The Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy provides invaluable support in the promotion, development, and maintenance of the open spaces around the Bay. It provides lots of volunteer opportunities from trail building to historical interpreting. I’m an 18-year member, and if you live in the Bay Area, or just love to visit these priceless spaces, I urge you to join.
