They’ve been running it since 1912: a 12K race that snakes west through the city, thunders through Golden Gate Park, and finishes at the Great Highway and Ocean Beach. This year it’s the Zappos.com Bay to Breakers, and it happens on Sunday, May 17. It draws tens of thousands, serious runners and costumed partiers and, yes, the naked people. I live near the Park, and provided I can get going early enough I head over to catch some of the spirit and take snapshots.
So here’s a slideshow salute to the elite runners and the following masses, the superheroes and the snacktime heroes, the balloon runners and the balloon watchers and, yes, the quiet watchers. For the sake of California, here’s hoping you get rained on this year. But have a great race anyway!
